The SEPTON 40mm f2 Aspherical revives the historic SEPTON name in a compact full-frame standard prime. It retains the Orthometar-type structure known for its short optical length and low distortion, and adds one aspherical element to the six-element formula to improve correction at f2. The result is an f2 standard lens that maintains a compact size without compromising edge consistency or contrast. Electronic contact also now integrates the lens with contemporary camera bodies, enabling Exif data recording and communication for stabilisation systems. This combination of classic optical layout and modern electronic integration marks a notable step forward in the brand’s compact full-frame prime lineup.

Optical design and close focusing

Following an Orthometar layout, the SEPTON 40mm f2 Aspherical lens features 7 elements arranged into 6 groups. This structure keeps the optical path short, which naturally controls distortion across the 40mm field of view. Voigtländer has also now added one aspherical element to improve performance at f2, tightening contrast and reducing spherical aberration when shooting wide open. And, thanks to the 10-blade diaphragm, this lens maintains a near-circular aperture through much of its range.
