360° full-scene capture

The DJI Avata 360 allows you to capture the whole scene first and decide on framing afterwards. Its dual 1-inch-equivalent sensors record 8K/60fps HDR 360° video with enough resolution to crop into usable standard frames later, changing the way you fly from the outset. Instead of spending the whole flight trying to hold a precise composition, you can concentrate on line, speed, height, and distance to the subject. This makes the drone feel less like a fixed camera in the sky and more like a way of collecting movement through a space, with the final perspective chosen afterwards in the edit.

Tracking, automation and dynamic movement

The DJI Avata 360 is not just about capturing the full scene; it is also about keeping that footage usable when subjects start to move unpredictably. ActiveTrack 360° handles this by automatically maintaining distance, height, and framing, with a Cycling mode that reacts more quickly when direction changes become sharper or less predictable. The forward-facing LiDAR supports omnidirectional obstacle sensing in 360 mode, helping the drone stay aware of its surroundings and maintain reliable tracking even as the light drops. A stable 1080p, low-latency live view, delivered through the O4+ transmission system to the RC 2 screen or compatible DJI Goggles, gives you a consistent feed to judge movement and positioning as the pace picks up. Features like Spotlight Free take this further by letting the drone hold onto a subject whilst you concentrate on directing the flight path itself.

Additionally, FPV gimbal mode can introduce a natural roll to the footage that reflects how the drone is actually moving through space. It gives tracking shots more energy without needing aggressive inputs, and can be applied or adjusted afterwards if needed. The result is a system that not only follows a subject but also translates that movement into footage that feels fluid, controlled, and intentional.

Confident close flying

A big part of the Avata 360’s appeal is that it invites you to fly closer and with more confidence than you might with a more exposed drone design. The integrated propeller guard is central to that feeling. It gives the aircraft a more protected body, which helps when working around structures, following subjects, or navigating places where you want to stay agile without feeling overly tentative. Omnidirectional obstacle sensing adds another layer to that experience in 360 mode, helping the drone stay more aware of its surroundings during flights so you can focus more on the shot's path and rhythm.

Direct control with the RC 2

The DJI RC 2 keeps the drone’s flight precise and self-contained. The controller’s built-in screen removes the need for an external device, while the direct stick control makes it easier to repeat routes, refine passes, and maintain consistent movement. This is an important feature with a 360 drone, where the quality of the final result depends heavily on how cleanly the drone moves through the scene, rather than how quickly you need to reframe mid-flight.

Longer shooting sessions with the Fly More Combo

Three Intelligent Flight Batteries, the Two-Way Charging Hub, and the sling bag turn the DJI Avata 360 into a more rounded field kit, where you can shoot, review, adjust, and go up again without breaking momentum after a single flight. That matters even more with 360 capture because small changes in route, height, or timing can completely alter the final result once you start reframing in post. Having more power on hand and a neater way to carry the system makes it much easier to treat the drone as a serious creative platform rather than something to rush through in one short session.

Know the rules!

The UK’s drone rules are based on the risk of the flight - where you fly, the proximity to other people, and the size and weight of your drone. Any drone with a camera, regardless of weight, will require an Operator ID. However, an additional Flyer ID is required for drones weighing 250g and over. Other qualifications are still needed for commercial drone use, and even then, this doesn't mean you can fly your drone anywhere. Ensure you know the rules and consult the Drone Code before you fly; if you want to fly commercially, you must take the PfCO CAA exam (Permission for Commercial Operations).

FAQs

What sets the DJI Avata 360 apart from a standard camera drone?

The main difference is that it captures the entire scene in 360° rather than asking you to commit to a fixed frame while flying. That changes the job in the air, because you can focus more on movement, positioning, and timing, then decide later how the finished shot should look. It also has a more enclosed, FPV-style body with an integrated propeller guard, which changes how confidently you can fly near subjects or structures. In use, it feels more immersive and more flexible in post than a conventional fixed-frame drone.

How useful is 8K 360° recording in real editing terms?

Shooting in 8K gives you the flexibility to extract standard video frames while maintaining detail and clarity. This allows you to produce multiple compositions from a single flight, reducing the need to repeat shots. The 8K resolution is less about final delivery and more about preserving image quality through reframing.

What does the RC 2 remote control add to the DJI Avata 360?

The RC 2 gives you direct, precise control with a built-in screen, which keeps the setup compact and straightforward. That suits the Avata 360 well when you want to fly with intent, repeat routes, or refine a movement rather than rely on a more purely immersive control style. It also keeps your attention on the aircraft and the shot without extra setup around a separate device. In practical terms, it makes the drone feel easier to integrate into a more deliberate shooting routine.

What role does the live video feed play while flying?

The live view lets you judge movement, spacing, and timing in real time. The Avata 360 transmits a stable, low-latency 1080p feed through the O4+ system to the RC 2 screen or compatible goggles, depending on your setup. This feed is not the final recorded quality, but it is critical for maintaining control and confidence during flight. A consistent live view makes it easier to commit to a line and adjust smoothly as conditions change.

How reliable is the DJI Avata 360’s tracking when subjects move unpredictably?

ActiveTrack 360° is designed to adapt to changes in direction and speed, with Cycling mode reacting more quickly to turns. It keeps the subject framed while maintaining a consistent distance and altitude, which reduces the need for constant manual correction. This allows you to focus more on how the drone moves through the scene rather than keeping the subject centred at all times.

Can the DJI Avata 360 still be used without 360 capture?

Yes. While 360 capture is the defining feature, the drone can also switch to Single Lens mode for more conventional 4K/60fps video capture. That means you can use it more directly when you already know the framing you want, without needing to rework the perspective afterwards. It gives the drone a broader creative range, but the core character still comes from the freedom of full-scene capture. The benefit is having both approaches available without changing aircraft.
