Fujifilm X-H2 IR Digital Camera Body
The Fujifilm X-H2 is a high-resolution APS-C mirrorless camera built around a 40 megapixel X-Trans 5 HR sensor, designed for photographers and filmmakers who need maximum detail from a compact system. It balances very high still resolution with serious video performance, recording internal 8K and Apple ProRes while maintaining strong in-body stabilisation and fast mechanical burst shooting for controlled, deliberate work.

Ultra-high resolution imaging
At the heart of the X-H2 is the 40MP X-Trans 5 HR BSI sensor, paired with the latest X-Processor 5. In practice, this delivers excellent detail with Fujifilm’s familiar colour response, while still leaving room to crop without the image falling apart. The lower native ISO 125 helps keep noise under control when working in good light, which suits landscape, architecture and studio photography particularly well.
Pixel Shift Multi-Shot for maximum detail
For stationary subjects, the X-H2 can capture 160-megapixel images using Pixel Shift Multi-Shot. The camera records 20 frames while shifting the sensor in half-pixel steps, then combines them into a single high-resolution DNG. The result is a cleaner colour, reduced false detail and exceptional fine texture, which is especially useful for artwork reproduction, archival work and commercial product photography.
Serious video in a compact body
The X-H2 records internal 8K/30p and 4K/60p Apple ProRes in 10-bit 4:2:2 when using CFexpress cards, giving files that hold together well in post. F-Log2 extends the dynamic range beyond 13 stops, helping retain highlight detail in contrasting scenes. With an external recorder, ProRes RAW or Blackmagic RAW opens up even more flexibility for grading-heavy projects.
Stabilisation and handling
In-body image stabilisation is rated at up to 7 stops and feels effective in real use, particularly with standard and short telephoto lenses. It helps steady handheld video and allows slower shutter speeds for stills without having to immediately reach for a tripod. The large, high-resolution electronic viewfinder makes careful framing easier, and blackout-free shooting at 15fps keeps moving subjects visible during bursts.
Speed and shutter control
Despite its high resolution, the X-H2 remains responsive. The mechanical shutter reaches 15fps, while the electronic shutter extends to an extreme 1/180,000 second for controlling exposure in very bright conditions. This combination suits photographers who work with fast lenses in daylight or need precise timing without relying solely on neutral density filters.

FAQs
Is the Fujifilm X-H2 better suited to photography or video?
The X-H2 is designed as a balanced hybrid camera, but its strengths lean towards high-resolution photography and detail-focused video. The 40MP sensor and Pixel Shift Multi-Shot favour controlled stills work, while internal 8K and ProRes recording make it viable for demanding video production. It suits users who value resolution more than extreme high-speed autofocus performance.
How practical is 8K recording on the X-H2?
8K recording works best when you want maximum flexibility in post-production, such as cropping or oversampling for 4K delivery. Apple ProRes keeps files robust and easier to edit, though storage requirements are significant. For longer shoots, an external recorder or the optional cooling fan helps manage heat and recording times.
Does the in-body stabilisation replace a gimbal for video?
The IBIS is very effective for reducing small movements and handheld shake, especially when walking slowly or panning. It does not fully replace a gimbal for complex movement, but it makes handheld shooting far more usable and controlled in many situations.
Who is Pixel Shift Multi-Shot really for?
Pixel Shift is best used for static subjects on a tripod, where nothing in the frame moves. It is particularly valuable for commercial, studio and archival photography where colour accuracy and fine detail matter more than speed.
What memory cards work best with the X-H2?
CFexpress Type B cards are recommended for high-bitrate video formats, such as internal ProRes and 8K recording. The UHS-II SD slot works well for stills and lower data-rate video, offering flexibility depending on how the camera is used.
