Key upgrades in the X2D 100C II
The Hasselblad X2D 100C II represents the most significant update to Hasselblad’s medium format system since the original X2D. It is the first medium format camera to deliver true in-camera HDR, generating HDR HEIF and Ultra HDR JPEG files that users can instantly review on the 1400-nit HDR display or edit directly on iPhone and iPad with Phocus Mobile 2. Autofocus has been transformed with continuous AF, LiDAR assistance, and subject detection, allowing accurate tracking of people, animals, and vehicles. A new AF illuminator enhances focus reliability in low-light conditions, ensuring speed and precision where the previous model struggled. Stabilisation has also been doubled, with a 5-axis system now offering up to 10 stops of compensation, enabling sharp handheld results at much slower shutter speeds and reducing the need for a tripod.
100MP BSI CMOS sensor with HDR colour science
The X2D 100C II carries forward the proven 100MP BSI CMOS sensor first introduced in the original Hasselblad X2D 100C. Capable of producing 16-bit images with 15.3 stops of dynamic range and a native ISO range of 50–25,600, this sensor remains a benchmark for tonal depth and image fidelity, preserving highlight and shadow detail across the frame. The Hasselblad Natural Colour Solution now includes HDR support, preserving subtle tonal transitions and accurate colour reproduction from capture through to HDR-capable platforms and displays, maintaining consistency at every stage of the imaging process.
425-point hybrid AF with LiDAR and 10-stop IBIS
The X2D 100C II uses a 425-point hybrid autofocus system that combines phase and contrast detection with LiDAR mapping. Continuous AF tracks moving subjects precisely, while subject detection recognises humans, vehicles, cats, and dogs. A new AF illuminator enhances performance in low-light conditions, maintaining speed and accuracy where the previous model struggled. To complement this, the 5-axis in-body stabilisation system now delivers up to 10 stops of compensation, keeping both static and moving subjects sharp, even at slower shutter speeds.
HDR display, electronic viewfinder and top panel
The 3.6-inch OLED tilt touchscreen now supports HDR playback, allowing photographers to review images with greater brightness, contrast, and colour accuracy. With 1400-nit output, a wide P3 colour gamut, and a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, the display reveals subtle tonal differences and extended highlight detail that standard screens cannot show. A 5.76M-dot OLED electronic viewfinder with 1.0x magnification complements the screen, delivering detailed composition and accurate framing even in harsh outdoor light. For quick reference during shooting, a 1.08-inch full-colour TFT top display shows key exposure settings and shooting information without needing to check the main screen.
Redesigned body and controls
The X2D 100C II features a lighter body, weighing 840g with the battery, which is 7.5% lighter than its predecessor. Hasselblad redesigned the grip for better balance, finished the body in graphite grey, and added a 5D joystick with eight custom buttons. These changes give photographers faster access to settings and more responsive handling during demanding shoots. Storage relies on a high-speed 1TB internal SSD that holds up to 50,000 HEIF images, with a CFexpress Type B slot available for additional capacity and backup.
Wireless connectivity and Phocus Mobile 2
Phocus Mobile 2 extends the X2D 100C II’s capabilities beyond the camera body, integrating directly with iPhone and iPad. Photographers can transfer files wirelessly, wake the camera remotely, and edit RAW HDR images with Hasselblad Natural Noise Reduction applied. This connectivity ensures that users can capture, review, and edit HDR images seamlessly across devices, maintaining Hasselblad’s colour accuracy and image quality from capture through to delivery.

FAQs:
How long does the battery last, and how quickly can it be charged?
A 3400mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery powers the X2D 100C II. It delivers approximately 327 still images per charge under CIPA testing, or around 466 images in optimised conditions. Charging through the USB-C port with a 30W charger takes approximately two hours to go from empty to full. For longer sessions, photographers can carry an additional Hasselblad X rechargeable battery and use the Hasselblad Battery Charging Hub to keep multiple batteries ready.
What ports/terminals does the X2D 100C II include?
The camera features a USB-C 3.1 Gen2 port supporting 10Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a hot shoe and a shutter control port. Wireless connectivity is available through Phocus Mobile 2, which supports wireless transfer and remote wake-up.
What are the average file sizes for images?
RAW files average 206MB, standard JPEGs around 32MB, and HDR JPEGs about 40MB. HEIF files are approximately 20MB in size, or 28MB for HDR HEIF. The 1TB internal SSD can store roughly 50,000 HEIF images, and the CFexpress Type B slot supports cards up to 512GB.
How does the X2D 100C II perform outside of a studio?
The camera maintains consistent performance in temperatures ranging from –10°C to 45°C and in humidity levels up to 85% (non-condensing). These ratings indicate that it can be used reliably in a wide range of outdoor conditions, from colder environments to hot, humid climates, without compromising performance.
