The Leica SL3-P Digital Camera combines a 44MP BSI full-frame CMOS sensor, Maestro IV processor, and a hybrid AF system in a versatile SL body for photography and video. It records up to 14 stops of dynamic range and 176MP Multishot files, while 819 phase-detection AF points support subject tracking, and 40fps bursts with full AF maintain continuous capture. Video extends to 8.1K Open Gate, ProRes, and HDMI RAW, making the SL3-P the most complete SL body for high-resolution photography and advanced video production in a single system.

FAQs:
Is the Leica SL3-P compatible with L-Mount lenses?
Yes. The Leica SL3-P uses the Leica L bayonet with electronic contacts for communication between the camera and lens. This gives access to Leica SL lenses and compatible L-Mount lenses from L-Mount Alliance partners. Compatible lenses pass focus, aperture and lens data to the camera body. For photographers already using the SL-System, existing L-Mount lenses can be carried forward.
How does the Leica SL3-P compare with the SL3 and SL3-S?
The SL3-P sits between the 60MP SL3 and the 24MP SL3-S with a 44MP-class BSI full-frame sensor. Its 39.6ms sensor readout is faster than the SL3 at 100.7ms and the SL3-S at 51.3ms, supporting more responsive electronic shooting. It reaches 40fps with full autofocus support, compared with 30fps on the SL3-S and 5fps on the SL3 with full AF support. The SL3-P can also apply Leica Content Credentials without burst-mode restrictions.
What media should I use with the Leica SL3-P?
The SL3-P has dual card slots for CFexpress Type B and SD media. Leica recommends UHS-II SD Cards and CFexpress Type B cards, especially for continuous shooting and higher-resolution video formats. CFexpress Type B cards offer higher write speeds and capacities than SD cards, which is why certain video modes require them. SD cards remain useful for still photography, lower data-rate recording, and general file storage.
How long does the Leica SL3-P battery last?
The SL3-P uses the Leica BP-SCL6 lithium-ion rechargeable battery. The battery has a rated voltage of 7.2V and a minimum capacity of 2200mAh. Leica rates the camera at 383 shots per charge based on the CIPA standard, with AF Detection off. Under Leica’s adapted shooting cycle, the figure rises to 1431 shots, so battery life depends on shooting pattern, display use, autofocus settings and video operation.
Does the Leica SL3-P have a recording time limit?
The SL3-P has no fixed recording time limit. Recording duration depends on storage capacity, ambient temperature and sensor temperature. Under Leica’s test conditions at 25°C, typical recording times are approximately 20 minutes for 8K/30fps, 25 minutes for 6K/30fps and 30 minutes for 4K/30fps. The IP54-sealed body does not use active cooling, so recordings should be planned with card capacity, airflow and ambient temperature in mind.
What file transfer and tethering options does the Leica SL3-P support?
The SL3-P supports USB-C tethering for direct review in Lightroom Classic and Capture One. Adobe Frame.io enables Camera-to-Cloud transfer for JPG, DNG and proxy video, while Leica FOTOS provides wireless transfer, remote control and firmware updates from a mobile device. Leica Content Credentials can add tamper-proof metadata at capture, giving image files an optional authenticity record.
