Expanded Nikon Z 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 Lens Key Features:
Optical Designation
The Nikon Z 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 Lens features an intricately crafted optical design, which consists of both Super ED and ED glass elements to actively eliminate chromatic aberrations and colour fringing throughout the zoom range. This has a positive effect on clarity and colour accuracy within your image, whilst ARNEO and Nanon Crystal Coats further prevent ghosting, reflections, and flare. First, the ARNEO Coat controls incidental light from a vertical angle, whilst the Nano Crystal Coat controls incidental light from a diagonal direction. This affords improved image control, particularly when working in harsh lighting and backlit conditions.
High-Grade AF Performance
The lens is equipped with Nikon’s multi-focusing system that uses two AF drive units that are precisely synchronised in order to deliver fast, accurate autofocusing. To drive this system are powerful stepping motors that provide autofocusing that is super-smooth, virtually silent and has next to zero focus breathing - it’s perfect for both stills and video. Furthermore, with a full-time manual focus override too and an internal focusing design, the overall length of the lens will stay the same resulting in easier handling and faster-focusing speeds. Finally, the lens has a minimum focusing distance of 73cm and a maximum magnification of 0.38x which together, enable the efficient capture of close-up subjects.
Ergonomic Exterior Design
With superb handling and a tactile, stylish form, this Nikon Z lens has a relatively short zoom throw rotation of a mere 80° to support fast-action changes between the 100mm to the 400mm positions. This is alongside a Programmable Control Ring, which is set (by default) to adjust manual focus, but it can also be utilised to control aperture or exposure compensation. The integrated OLED lens information panel also lets you confirm the aperture setting, focus distance, and depth of field figures directly onto the lens in both bright and dark shooting situations. To support custom production workflows, you are provided with two camera-based function buttons to ensure seamless changes to exposure settings and other functions. The intuitive Inner Balance technology also helps to maintain a consistent centre of gravity when shifting the zoom position, which actively supports greater stability when tracking via a gimbal head.
The dust- and moisture-resistant exterior lens barrel is backed up by a front fluorine coating, which is perfectly suited to pro-level sports, action and wildlife photography. The rotating tripod collar offers additional mounting stability when mounted atop a tripod or monopod, whilst this system is further compatible with the optional Z-Teleconverter TC-1.4x and TC-2x.
