June 2025 Firmware update
The Panasonic Lumix S1 II E has received a firmware update to enhance the hybrid shooting experience, featuring updates to both photo and video features. Frame aspect ratio options have been expanded from 10 to 17, allowing for the simultaneous display of up to three frames to suit your framing needs. The S1 II now supports data transfer via Wi-Fi and wired LAN with Capture One. For improved accessibility, there are now 10 colours to choose from for the AF frame.
For professional video recording, ARRI LogC3 will now be available for colour matching with ARRI’s digital cinema cameras, but requires DMW-SFU3A Software Upgrade Key, which is sold separately.
November 2025 Firmware Update
A new firmware update improves stability and usability across the Lumix S1 II E. A revised thermal control algorithm reduces the impact of environmental temperature on recording time, supporting more reliable long-form video capture. Autofocus behaviour has been refined, with enhanced tracking stability and new display options, including main-subject-only recognition frames and a rectangular eye-detection frame.
Video, Compatibility and App Enhancements
The update adds MP4(Lite), a low-bitrate 3.8K 50Mbps recording option, and improves compatibility with the S-R100500 lens and DMW-STC14/STC20 teleconverters. LUMIX Flow App v1.4 now supports LUT live view, multiple frame markers and focus-frame display when using an external monitor. Additional refinements include faster focus-stacking processing, a 1.6x anamorphic desqueeze display option, clearer preview indicators and other minor UI improvements.
Powerful 24MP sensor for detailed imaging
The Panasonic Lumix S1 II E is built around a 24.2MP full-frame sensor inspired by the Panasonic Lumix S5 II X, delivering high image quality suited to a broad range of shooting conditions. Paired with Panasonic’s latest engine with L² Technology, this sensor offers the dynamic range and colour depth required for demanding stills and video applications, supporting 14+ stops in V-Log and enabling advanced video formats for high-quality shooting. A 96MP high-res mode boosts image quality for even more detail in RAW and JPEG stills. The sensor provides the foundation for high-speed burst shooting, advanced autofocus performance, and professional-grade recording formats, making it a reliable choice for uncompromised sensor performance.
Advanced autofocus and high-speed burst shooting
The S1 II E shares its autofocus system with the S1 II, featuring real-time Phase Hybrid AF with improved eye, face, and human tracking enhanced by AI. The new Urban Sports tracking expands the system’s detection to cover fast, erratic motion typical in action sports such as street dance, freestyle, football, skateboarding, BMX, and Parkour. AI-powered subject tracking adapts in real time to maintain focus on challenging movement patterns or fast-paced subjects, while up to 30fps burst shooting will enable you to capture your desired shot. Such rapid autofocus and high-speed burst shooting make the S1 II E an excellent choice for users capturing unpredictable action in dynamic environments.
6.4K Open Gate and new Cinemascope video recording
Panasonic’s Lumix S1 II E offers up to 6K 30p video recording with 14+ stops of dynamic range for exceptional tonal depth and detail. It supports full-area Cinemascope (2.4:1) 4K 60p video without cropping, ensuring creative flexibility and true-to-life composition. Advanced video tools such as internal Apple ProRes RAW recording, 32-bit float audio recording, and support for ARRI LogC3 (via Upgrade Key DMW-SFU3A), a first for the LUMIX S Series, allow for integration into high-end productions.
Enhanced real-time LUT application, 6.4K Open Gate capture, and a new Cinemascope 2.4:1 format for widescreen storytelling without cropping enable professional-quality visuals, all supported by 8.0 stops of in-body image stabilisation and cropless Electronic Image Stabilisation (E.I.S.), for smooth, shake-free results. The S1 II E is designed for content creators looking for refined image quality, smooth footage, and comprehensive creative control.
Designed for efficient, user-friendly operation
The Panasonic Lumix S1 II E shares its design with the Panasonic Lumix S1R II and S1 II, covering essential features and offering an impressive user experience. Like the S1 II, the S1 II E features a 1.84 million-dot 3-inch touchscreen LCD tilt and free-angle monitor for capturing dynamic angles. For support with framing, the OLED Live View Finder (LVF) features 5.76 million-dot resolution for clear, bright viewing. Additional hardware improvements for convenient and efficient operation include a Stills/Video/S&Q switch, tally lamp, front record button, and shutter close system.
The S1 II E is also compatible with a range of software that promotes efficiency from shooting to post-production. These include the Lumix Lab app for editing images and video on your smartphone, the Lumix Flow app for creating scripts, storyboards, and more, Capture One for real-time editing during shoots, and Frame.io for recording proxy files to send to the cloud.
