Extending Sigma’s Contemporary standard zoom range further into wide-angle territory, the Sigma 20-60mm f2.8-4 DG Contemporary Lens shifts the familiar starting point of an everyday zoom to an ultra-wide 20mm, staying true to the series’ focus on compact, lightweight lenses. Its 15-element optical construction uses three SLD and three aspherical elements, with HLA autofocus providing fast, precise focusing. Combined with 1:2.3 maximum magnification, Sigma has created a standard zoom for photographers who value wider everyday coverage, close focusing and portability over additional reach at the long end.

FAQs:
Can I use filters with the Sigma 20-60mm f2.8-4 DG Contemporary Lens?
Yes. The lens has a 67mm filter thread, allowing compatible screw-in filters to attach directly to the front of the lens. This gives photographers the option to use filters such as polarisers to manage reflections or neutral density filters to control the amount of light entering the lens.
How does the maximum aperture change through the zoom range?
The Sigma 20-60mm uses a variable f2.8-4 maximum aperture rather than maintaining f2.8 throughout the zoom range. It opens to f2.8 at 20mm, giving photographers greater light transmission at the ultra-wide end and helping keep ISO lower in low light. The maximum aperture varies through the zoom range, reaching f4 at the telephoto end.
What is the minimum focusing distance across the zoom range?
The shortest minimum focusing distance is 15.8cm at 28mm, but the lens retains close focusing across its focal range. The minimum focusing distance is 20cm at the wide end and 25cm at the telephoto end. Maximum magnification reaches 1:2.3 at 35mm and remains strong at the 60mm end, reaching 1:2.9. This gives photographers the flexibility to adjust perspective and framing when working close to a subject.
Is the Sigma 20-60mm f2.8-4 DG Contemporary Lens waterproof?
No. The lens uses a dust- and splash-resistant structure designed to provide additional protection against light moisture and dust, but the construction is not waterproof. A water- and oil-repellent coating is also applied to the front element, making moisture and marks easier to remove. These features provide practical protection and easier maintenance during regular outdoor photography.
