What are high power binoculars?
HIgh power binoculars are large aperture binoculars for long-range and astronomy viewing. Generally, high power binoculars are large-bodied with large lenses and require mounting on a tripod.
What makes binoculars high power?
All binoculars have two numbers in their name. The first is the magnification expressed as 10X, 20X, 50X and so on. This is the magnification beyond what your naked eye provides. The larger the magnification, the more powerful the binoculars.
The second is the objective lens diameter. Generally speaking, a larger lens diameter coupled with a large magnification provides the best high power performance.
We class binoculars as ‘high power’ when they provide a magnification of 15x or higher.
Do I need high power binoculars?
Binoculars with very high magnification are great for viewing long-range items in very clear detail. The high magnification and lens diameter mean that you can view long-range items in extremely clear detail.
They are however heavy and will be very unsteady if used without support. If you are looking for handheld binoculars consider these powerful binoculars.
