Vertical-first digital camera with film-inspired design

The Fujifilm X-Half is a lightweight digital camera purpose-built for vertical shooting, combining a 1-inch sensor, fixed lens, and film-inspired controls in a 240g body. Drawing inspiration from classic half-frame film cameras, it integrates a 1-inch back-illuminated CMOS sensor (13.3 x 8.8mm) with 17.74 million effective pixels. The native 3:4 aspect ratio aligns directly with smartphone-style framing, while physical controls offer a more deliberate and tactile shooting experience. This design makes the X-Half suited to social-first photographers, travel shooters, and digital storytellers seeking a dedicated camera for vertical compositions.

Fixed 32mm lens for everyday documentary-style shooting

The X-Half features a non-interchangeable 32mm equivalent f2.8 lens, delivering a natural perspective ideal for street, portrait, and lifestyle photography. The optical construction includes 6 elements in 5 groups, designed for minimal distortion and consistent sharpness across the frame. The fixed-lens approach reduces size, complexity, and setup time, allowing you to shoot quickly. Its f2.8 aperture offers creative control over depth of field, especially in close-up shots. This setup provides a familiar, versatile angle of view with improved optical clarity for photographers used to smartphones or point-and-shoots.

Built-in Film Simulations and 2-in-1 mode

The camera includes 13 of Fujifilm’s signature Film Simulations, such as the newly added REALA ACE, known for its accurate colour rendering and controlled contrast. It also features three new digital effects: Light Leak, Halation, and Expired Film, which replicate the optical imperfections and tonal shifts associated with vintage or damaged film stock. The 2-in-1 mode enables users to combine two vertical images or video clips in-camera, creating before-and-after comparisons, narrative sequences, or diptychs without relying on external editing software.

Analogue-style controls

The X-Half embraces its film-inspired roots with a mechanical frame advance lever and built-in optical viewfinder, both uncommon in modern compact cameras. The lever lets you wind between shots, echoing the process of using 35mm film, and works well with Film Camera Mode, which hides playback until you complete a full set of exposures. These tactile controls create a more focused, hands-on shooting experience that closely mirrors the feel of analogue photography.

Bluetooth app connectivity with instant printing support

The X-Half integrates directly with the dedicated Fujifilm X Half App via Bluetooth. Users can transfer stills and 2-in-1 composites from here, edit layout options, and prepare images for print or social media. The app also supports Instax printing via compatible mini Link, SQUARE Link, and Link Wide printers, allowing tangible output with no desktop required. This connected experience makes the X-Half especially appealing for creators who value immediacy, as they can shoot, edit, and share complete stories within minutes.

FAQs:

How does the Fujifilm X-Half's 1-inch sensor compare to APS-C sensors?

The Fujifilm X-Half features a 1-inch back-illuminated CMOS sensor measuring 13.3 x 8.8mm. This sensor is smaller than the APS-C sensors found in models like the Fujifilm X-T5 and Fujifilm X-S20, which measure approximately 23.5 x 15.6mm. While the 1-inch sensor allows for a more compact camera design and faster readout speeds, APS-C sensors typically offer better low-light performance and greater depth-of-field control. For a detailed comparison of sensor sizes, refer to Wex Photo Video's Photography Jargon Buster: An A-Z of Photographic Terms.

Does the Fujifilm X-Half support RAW or HEIF image formats?

No, the Fujifilm X-Half records images exclusively in JPEG format. It does not support RAW or HEIF file formats. This design choice simplifies the shooting process and reduces file sizes, making it suitable for users who prefer immediate image sharing without post-processing. For more information on the differences between RAW and JPEG formats, see Wex Photo Video's article: Raw vs JPEG: which should you be using?

What types of memory cards are compatible with the Fujifilm X-Half?

The Fujifilm X-Half is compatible with SD, SDHC, and SDXC memory cards, supporting capacities up to 2TB. It utilises the UHS-I bus interface for data transfer. For suitable memory cards, visit Wex Photo Video's Memory Cards page.

Which Instax printers are compatible with the Fujifilm X-Half App?

The Fujifilm X-Half App connects via Bluetooth to several Instax printers, allowing users to print images directly from the camera. Compatible models include:

These printers offer various print sizes and features, catering to different user preferences.

What Film Simulations does the Fujifilm X-Half include?

The Fujifilm X-Half includes 13 Film Simulations, such as Velvia, Classic Chrome, and the newly introduced REALA ACE. However, it omits some simulations available in higher-end models like the X-T5, including PRO Neg. Std, PRO Neg. Hi, ETERNA Bleach Bypass, and Monochrome R/G/Ye. For a comprehensive overview of Fujifilm's Film Simulations, refer to Wex Photo Video's article: Why Photographers Love the Fujifilm X100 Series, which discusses the appeal of these simulations in Fujifilm's camera lineup.

What battery does the Fujifilm X-Half use, and how long does it last?

The Fujifilm X-Half uses the NP-W126S lithium-ion battery, the same model used in cameras like the X-T30 II and X-S20. When shooting with the optical viewfinder, it delivers up to 880 still images per charge. Battery life may vary with LCD use, video recording, and Bluetooth activity. Charging is via USB-C, and spare NP-W126S units are widely available.
